My Fellow Americans,
Congressman John Dingell is in the news again due to a comment made by the President. The following is from March, 24, 2008.
Recently Congressman John Dingell (D-MI) has proposed adding an additional 50-cent per gallon tax on gasoline in an effort to cut down on consumption. I find this very interesting. Could it be that Mr. Dingell as finally learned that an increase in taxes reduces economic activity?
Maybe with this new knowledge he will realize that taxing tobacco products will not fund new health care programs. In fact according to his own logic it will cut down on consumption and reduce funding to the program. Will he and his fellow members of Congress realize that by ending the Bush tax cuts (that Sen. McCain voted against) they are actually increasing our taxes? By doing this, taking more of our money, it will cut down on our consumption and slow down the economy.
Perhaps we should lobby for a tax on all legislation passed by Congress, to be paid by the Congress. In doing so we might slow down some of the nonsense that flows from Washington.
I yield back, the balance of my time...
